What is Art to Me?
One who creates, allows the mind to express itself. Everyone has his own eye. Art can become a part of your life at any time in your life.
Many people are quite visual, and I am one of them. It is centering for me and can be calming at times when I need it most. Our culture has a great deal of influence on our lives. For centuries, art was a means of storytelling, a way to preserve our history. We have a very rich history. Picasso was greatly influenced by African Art early in his career, and that is true of many famous artists.
I remember as a child drawing flowers, trees, buildings and lovely landscapes. Perspective drawing, as you all may recall, is what was taught in art class. It wasn’t until I was a young adult that my eye changed. The human figure was ever so beautiful. The face, the hands, the feet were and still are challenging to this day.
A class in photography trained me to look at what was important. I realized it was painting on a canvas; you just needed to know where to place your subject on the canvas to make it visually acceptable or pleasing to the eye.
